What Is Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing is a great way to earn money and the best part about it is you have no overhead cost. With affiliate marketing you are simply selling someone else’s product. They pay you a commission of the cost and you simply promote it for them.
Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular ways people make money online and for some it can be a passive income once established. In fact, I know many people, including myself, that has quit there day job and make a real good living from affiliate marketing.
It is a strategy where an individual partners with a business, in order to make a commission, by referring readers or visitors to a business’s particular product or service, but that really is quite a simple explanation. To be really successful at making money with affiliate marketing there is a little more to it.
How Does Affiliate Marketing Work
Because affiliate marketing works by spreading the responsibilities of product marketing and creation across parties, it manages to leverage the abilities of a variety of individuals for a more effective marketing strategy while providing contributors with a share of the profit. To make this work, three different parties must be involved.
Seller and product creators-The product can be a physical object like something you would go to Walmart and buy, or a service like an training or even ebook.
The affiliate (Also known as a publisher or advertiser)- The affiliate can be either an individual or a company that markets the seller’s product in an appealing way to potential consumers.
The consumer-Consumers buy the product, the seller and the affiliate share the profits.
Getting A Audience
When beginning your affiliate marketing career, you’ll want to cultivate an audience that has very specific interests. This allows you to tailor your affiliate campaigns to that niche, increasing the likelihood that you’ll convert. By establishing yourself as an expert in one area instead of promoting a large array of products, you’ll be able to market to the people most likely to buy the product.
Pick And Choose
I can guarantee that there is an affiliate program for anything out there that you want to promote, so make sure that you are choosing quality products. Remember that this is a business and you are building yourself a brand. You do not want to false advertise, or as I call it lie, to your audience. Make sure that you personally believe in the product.
Review Your Choices
Now regardless of what you are going to promote it is always good to do product or service reviews. Tell your audience about what you are selling. Let them know the good and the bad. A good affiliate wants to help there audience first and foremost. Give them the knowledge and let them decide if its for them or not. As long as you build the trust, you will become an authority, and ultimately, successful. It may not be over night, but you want your visitors to be able to trust you.
Choose Your Campaign With Care
No matter how good your marketing skills are, you’ll make less money on a bad product than you will on a valuable one. Take the time to study the demand for a product before promoting it. Make sure to research the seller with care before teaming up. Your time is worth a lot, and you want to be sure you’re spending it on a product that is profitable and a seller you can believe in.
Stay Current With What You Are Doing
There is serious competition in the affiliate marketing sphere. You’ll want to make sure you stay on top of any new trends to ensure you remain competitive. Additionally, you’ll likely be able to benefit from at least a few of the new marketing techniques that are constantly being created. Be sure you’re keeping up to date on all these new strategies to guarantee that your conversion rates are high and then that will turn into more revenue for you.
Now that we know a few things to do, let’s talk about what NOT to do as an affiliate Marketer.
Selling Rather Than Helping
One thing that I see over and over again is someone overloading their website or blog with affiliate links and they are screaming BUY THIS HERE!
You want to educate your reader why they should buy what you have. Teach them how they will benefit from the product or service. Tell them how it will make their everyday life easier.
People want to hear from other people when making a decision to buy a product or not — that’s why the reviews on Amazon products are so powerful. Those reviews are genuine feedback from people who (usually) have absolutely nothing to gain if someone buys that product or not.
When we talk more like an unbiased reviewer rather than a high-pressure salesperson, we will find we make more sales and people will come back for advice on other products in the future.
Choose With Care
I know in the beginning you are excited and want to join any and every affiliate program that will accept you, but beware. This can, and will, become way to over whelming. Especially in the beginning choose just a couple to work with and concentrate on them.
Be Sure To Test
Always try to test your product or service. I have seen time in and time out someone trying to promote something, not knowing what the end outcome can lead to.
For instance, say a person purchases a service you are selling. Once they purchase this, then the product creator starts filling their inbox with non-sense sales tactics. Put yourself in your audience’s shoes.
Make Money Online Products
Perhaps you’ve seen this before. You’re in a learn online marketing type forum. A person publishes a post complaining that they can’t make a dime online. But in their signature line they have something along the lines of “I Made a Million Dollars with This” followed by their affiliate link.
It happens all the time. Please, don’t be that person.
If you’re new and you want to promote products in the Make Money Online arena, don’t make false claims that it made you money. In fact, don’t make false claims at all!
Sure, talk about the benefits of the product/training — maybe even why it sounds awesome to you — but don’t try to trick people. You will ruin your credibility.
